INSIGHT’s intensively trained Behavior Technicians (BT) work one-on-one with each child. When working with clients, BTs closely monitor their emotional responses to match the difficulty of the material and method of instruction to the learner’s ability and rate of learning. Nearly all BTs have, or are in progress of obtaining, an undergraduate/graduate degree in a field of study related to autism; others are working towards becoming Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs).
Supervision of each child’s program is provided by one of our Program Behavior Analysts, who are masters level Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) and Qualified Behavioral Health Professionals with regular formal progress reviews.

Insight has a therapy schedule that staff and clients follow each day. This schedule is similar to what is used in a pre-school/school environment that includes one-on-one learning time, as well as group instruction and structured social opportunities. Each client, though, may have unique needs (more frequent snacks, naps, etc.) that require a modification of this schedule and we are happy to do so!

The Behavior Technician (BT) working with your child will provide a summary of the therapy session upon pick-up each day. This will include successes and challenges of the day and strategies that are working well to be used at home. Our BCBAs are also available to meet with families/caregivers throughout each month, no less than once per month.

Because we customize each client’ s schedule to best suit their needs, the number of children in each center varies from location to location and day to day. That said, we make every effort to provide as many social opportunities during therapy, with well-matched peers, as possible. At Insight we understand what a valuable role the environment plays in the success of the child. We strategically use our floor plans and square footage in each location to ensure that every client has an individual space for learning, as well as small group activities.
-
We ask every caregiver to be willing and prepared to work with their child at home doing similar activities to what is included in daily therapy sessions. The details of these activities are provided by your BCBA and will be the focus of ongoing caregiver meetings. We also ask that caregivers have an open mind to learning and using different communication strategies, behavior interventions, and environmental supports that will help the child learn and grow.
-
Yes! We believe that the more inclusive the team supporting the child the better. By collaborating with medical professionals, educational teams, and other autism specialists (speech, occupational, feeding therapists) we can create the most effective, least restrictive treatment plan possible. Which means greater positive outcomes and gains for the child and family!
-
We require all Insight families/caregivers to meet with their BCBA at least once per month. If there is a need or preference to meet more frequently, that is wonderful! This can be coordinated with your BCBA.
-
Yes, we often observe that when young children begin ABA they may exhibit temporary changes in their typical sleep schedules and appetite. The child typically resumes their normal routines within a couple of weeks of starting therapy. Please contact your BCBA with any concerns and they can help you navigate any changes. Simultaneously you should also observe positive changes! We often receive parent feedback that their children are more engaged in playing, talking more, and less frustrated within just a few therapy sessions.
-
We understand that at times naps are still needed in a child’s schedule. Your BCBA will work with you and your child to meet their napping needs.
-
No, due to strict licensing requirements we are not able to provide meals like a school or daycare. However, we can serve snacks and lunch items that are brought from home and are equipped for some limited preparation of foods for your child.
-
Think of it like the first day of school! It may be harder on you than your child to make this big step. But don’t worry, if you’d like to observe via camera, frequently check in with your BCBA via phone, text or video conference, we can make that happen. We ask that after dropping off parents return to their vehicle and exit the parking lot. Extended goodbyes and transitions can make the situation more difficult for the child.
By using personally meaningful items and pre-determined positive behavior supports (adapted by Project ImPACT) we are confident that the transition to therapy for your loved one will be as positive as possible. While your child may cry or be upset when dropping off for the first few sessions, this usually stops within a few minutes each day and quickly gets better over time.
-
Don’t stress, our clinical staff are well-equipped to meet all your child’s toileting needs! Developed from evidenced-based best practices, we have a variety of toilet training protocols and tools that will support you and your child on their potty-training journey.
